TZM molybdenum is an alloy of molybdenum. titanium, zirconium and carbon. It has a higher recrystallization
temperature, higher creep strength and higher tensile strength than pure molybdenum.
TZM Alloy (titanium, zirconium, molybdenum) This alloy contains 99% Mo, 0.5% Ti and 0.08% Zr. TZM offers twice the strength of pure molybdenum at temperatures over 1300°C and the recrystallization temperature of TZM is approximately 250°C higher than molybdenum.
TZM's finer grain structure and the formation of TiC and ZrC in the grain boundaries inhibit grain growth and the related failure of the base metal as a result of fracturing along grain boundaries.
TZM is used in the high temperature structures in vacuum furnaces, tooling for hot die forging and hot gas valves for rockets.
